Snapchat Rebrands, Launches Spectacles

New name, new product, next big thing?

Snapchat is now Snap Inc. and has branched out into the world of wearable tech with their new ‘Spectacles’ offering. Available this fall, they will come in black, teal and coral, retailing for $129.

Looking like a pair of sunglasses, Spectacles will record 10 second video clips with the tap of a finger. Videos captured by them will be wirelessly imported into the new ‘Memories’ section of Snapchat. They come with a charging case that will provide about a day’s worth of battery life.

Spectacles aim to present an image closer to what the eye actually sees by using a 115-degree-angle lense.

“…when I got the footage back and watched it, I could see my own memory, through my own eyes—it was unbelievable. It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience. It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again,” Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel told the Wall Street Journal.
