CES 2016 Recap
DOM360 had the opportunity to exhibit at CES this year, and it was an unforgettable experience. CES is one of the largest trade shows in the world, and the biggest consumer electronics companies come each year to debut new products and announce new initiatives. Since automakers began attending in 2007, automotive has proved to be a popular addition to the show. This year was a perfect time for DOM360 to attend, because the 2016 edition of CES is when automotive took center stage in a major way.
While products like drones and ultra high definition TVs were numerous at CES, the biggest buzz was generated by car companies. Some major companies announced new partnerships, while newer companies like Faraday Future made their mark as well. The dominant theme was this: interconnectivity is going to be the most sought after component in new vehicles, and car companies are determined to make their upcoming vehicles as tech friendly as possible.
Many vehicles at the show featured new capabilities such as gesture control, virtual dashboards, improved connectivity for apps and operating systems, and more. Partnerships were struck between automakers and companies like Amazon and Google, all in the interest of turning your car into a smart car, giving them new capabilities that will change the way driving is done.
Several electric vehicles made their debuts at CES, with longer ranges and more affordable prices. Volkswagen’s Budd-e van and Chevy’s Bolt both made a big impact on attendees. Faraday Future introduced an electric vehicle called the FFZERO1, a concept car with a 1,000 HP engine. It’s not yet operational, but it turned heads.
CES 2016 could be remembered as a turning point, when the show became more of a showcase for automotive technology than for any other industry.
