Ten Most Durable Cars Revealed
Sometimes, size does matter.
When it comes to what vehicles last the longest, cars only had one entry in the top ten, with the other spots being taken by large trucks and SUVs. A recent study looked at 12 million cars on the road in 2015, with models included in the study dating back to 1981. Of those cars, it was determined what percentage had over 200,000 miles on them and were still going strong.
The top spot was taken by the Ford F-250 Super Duty, with 6% still on the road with over 200,000 miles. The top five was rounded out by the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, Toyota 4Runner, Ford Expedition, and a tie between the Chevy Suburban and Toyota Sequoia with 4.8% each. The only car on the list was the Toyota Avalon, which came in ninth place.
A couple reasons were given for the heavy emphasis on trucks and large SUVs. They are often used in businesses with heavy driving times. This compels the owners to stay up to date with service schedules, and ensure that their vehicles are running efficiently to keep their businesses moving as well. Also, many SUVs are used by families, with many miles put on them during family trips as well as simply driving kids to and from their activities.
